Mother's Day in the Gutt

For mother's day Amber and Ed were in the Gutt all weekend, Josh had some softball or something on Saturday so the dogs and Josh and I piled in the car on Sunday for the festivites.

We had a feast of hamburgers, pasta salad, and rhubarb crisp and rhubarb pie. IT was soo delicious.

Mom received some great gifts. A gift certificate to have Soda kenneled during the time we will be in Mexico for Amber's wedding. And another gift certificate to buy some new shoes. It was a good day.

The Circle Tap

Josh was helping organize a golf tournament, so in order to discuss some details we piled in the car with some friends and were off to Davenport, to the Circle Tap. The golf tournament was to be held at Finkbine in Iowa City, but the details were still be hashed out. So Josh met up with the guys at the Circle Tap becuase of the ribs. Amber and Josh just happen to live about 5 blocks from there, so they joined in the fun as well.

The ribs are good, they fall off the bone. They are served on a tray, no plate, just directly placed on this plastic tray you may see at a school cafeteria. keep in mind this is a bar as well.

Then after the ribs were devoured, the guys discussed their golfing plans and then the karoke began. Josh nor I were drunk enough to belt out the lyrics to any song, but watching the people who were was just as fun.

time sure flies...

Well I am not sure where to begin....it has been almost a month since I last posted. I guess I will start with my running. It has come to a halt, which is a bummer. I went to the doctor and he thinks I have a stress fracture in my leg, where I though were shin splints. There was no visible crack in the x-ray, but becuase of the way they heal, and the pain that i have and the pain to touch them, that is the diagnosis. So I could wear a boot for a while, or stop the running and no walking. SO that limits me to working out inside, when the weather is so nice.

In the mean time Josh has been busy wrapping up the Iowa softball season. The made it to regionals in the NCAA tournament, but that was it, so Josh is done with that, just in time for high school baseball and softball to start. Just around the corner is the univeristy of Iowa summer sports camps. SO he will be busy.

In other news Josh's grandpa passed away. His health had not been too good for a while and he peacefully passed away.

There was mother's day, a trip to Chicago, a visit to see Amb and the Circle Tap, etc...all will be highlighted in seperate posts.

The bottom line...we are fine, dogs are fine, family is fine....

The most wonderful time of the year...

No silly, I am not talkin bout Chirstmas...It is rhubarb season!! I have been going out to my parents to let their dog out at noon. Of course I must drive past their rhubarb patch, stealing maybe 2-3 stalks at a time. Can one go into a coma from eating too much?

I also stole some lilacs for my desk at work. Josh and I have a mini lilac bush at our place, and we also used to enjoy the neoghbors lilacs, but the neighbor decided to rip them out this year. There are some lilac offshoots coming up on our side of the fence, we will show that neighbor that lilacs will not die!!!!

Another 5K under the belt

On Sunday May 3, we ran another 5k. I have been battling shin splints, and with a hilly course, this 5k was horrible!! Well horrible for me, I ran 4 minutes slower than last week. Josh the running star came in 23rd overall, just missing 3rd place in his age group. He does not run, in fact he probably shouldn't be running with his repaired knee, but he is a stud! So with the end of that race, I am hanging up the running shoes for 3 weeks. I must heal my shin splints or my leg may fall off. As much as I like peg legged pirates, I would rather keep my leg. I have read that if you let shin splints go too long they will turn into stress fractures, so I guess it will be elliptical and biking for me.

On that note, I did get my bike tires pumped up and took the old bike on a small ride. I forgot how small that seat was and how one's ass is in pain for a couple of days. Also the bugs and gnats are out!!

It's Prom time

So our little family friend, McKenz, was going to prom, it was her junior prom. So Amb and I had to go send her on her way. They had a little promenade in the high school gym. The times have certainly changed. Back in the day all is girls wore black dresses to prom, these days the color is everywhere.

That brings us to this week. Josh and I are going to watch the final Corridor Classic at the Kernals Stadium in Cedar Rapids tonight. It is a baseball game between the Iowa hawkeyes and the UNI panthers. The UNI baseball program was cut, so this is their last year. Bring on the hot dogs and peanuts.
